Reliably informed

While The Stand can usually be relied upon most months to provide a chortlesome line-up of comic capers, the shows on offer this month are particularly strong. Kicking off on Sunday 3rd, local comedian Lee Kyle (pictured) follows his hilarious Ultimate Worrier debut with a new show that builds on his anxiety-led material, discussing frustration, acceptance, shyness and generally being stupid (his words, not ours). Carrying the unwieldy title of I Came Here To Burn This Place To The Ground And Make A Table But I’m All Out Of Table Making Equipment And Matches, it’s been cannily shortened to The Original Show Title Was Too Long so it fits on the posters.

Taking a sideways swipe at happiness with his inimitable paranoid approach, Richard Herring’s new show, Happy Now?, on Sunday 10th examines whether humans can ever hope to be truly content; Ireland’s biggest sketch act, and seven times Edinburgh Fringe sell-outs, Foil Arms & Hog present their brilliant new show Skiddlywup, a delicious blend of bizarre characters and surreal comedy on Tuesday 12th; while tying up the end of the month with an anti-establishment wallop, comedic firebrand John Scott brings his Free Thinking Radicals to town on Monday 25th April, featuring music, comedy, spoken word and anti-authoritarian tomfooleries.
