It would be fair to say that Bristolian five-piece Coasts are a bit popular. Since forming in 2012 and releasing their debut EP Paradise a year later, they’ve gained a substantial following thanks to their brand of alternative indie pop, thanks to some help from Huw Stephens and Zane Lowe. Their singles Oceans and A Rush of Blood became beloved staples of their sets after they performed on hit reality TV show Made In Chelsea. They’re more than a flash in the pan though; the band are currently in the studio with Eliot James (the man behind equally popular indie disco botherers Noah & The Whale and Two Door Cinema Club) and are no doubt gearing up to premiere some of their latest material on their new UK tour, which arrives at Sunderland’s Independent on Tuesday 2nd June.

Joining the quintet are Mackem four-piece The Montagues, who have been causing quite a stir for the past year thanks to their punk-inflected take on math rock on their Silver Linings EP. They’re also accompanied by hotly-tipped Tyneside trio Sun Dance, whose alt. rock noise and impressive singles I Want A Reaction and Sticks & Stones have made them one of the region’s best rising prospects. It’s a feast of young talent you don’t want to miss.
