Middlesbrough Institute Of Modern Art have really excelled themselves with their monthly film nights, their inspired choices are movies which really capture the imagination and are proving to be events that share some truly special slices of cinema. This month is no different, as they bring dramatic comedy Hyènes along for a screening on Thursday 28th April.

The film is the story of an aging, wealthy woman, revisiting her home village and finding it has fallen on hard economic times. She proposes to help the town financially, on one condition, and director Djibril Diop Mambéty tells a tale that is a timeless story of human greed while still managing to satirise Africa today. With informal conversations about the film to follow, these screenings are a great way to engage with some phenomenal films. It’s all in a good cause too, as MIMA team up with IPC, the Middlesbrough-based charity supporting vulnerable migrants, refugees and asylum seekers in the Middlesbrough area.

Hyènes screens at MIMA, Middlesbrough as part of Cinema Paradiso on Thursday 28th April.
