Reliably informed

Listing all the acts that improvisational drummer Chris Corsano has worked with would probably take up more space than is contained within this very magazine. Across a long career he’s collaborated with everyone from Thurston Moore and Six Organs of Admittance to Rangda and Evan Parker. He also became a touring drummer for Björk after featuring on her 2007 album Volta (no mean feat, considering how much the Icelandic songstress likes her percussion). But Corsano is also a prolific artist in his own right, producing work with saxophonist Paul Flaherty under the name The Corsano Flaherty Duo.

For this special gig at Newcastle’s Lit & Phil, Corsano is swapping Flaherty for talented Danish saxophonist Mette Rasmussen; the pair have been touring extensively since releasing their debut album. Prepare yourself for a performance filled with often fiery and fierce punk-infused jazz tunes that show off both Corsano’s virtuosity with the drums and Rasmussen’s wide-ranging, free form saxophone skills.

Chris Corsano & Mette Rasmussen play at the Lit & Phil, Newcastle on Monday 6th July.
