Reliably informed

As demonstrated by the success of the recent Jesterval and the slew of similar forthcoming events over the coming months, it really is a good time for North East comedy. The quality of stand-ups, both on the circuit and bubbling under the surface, is incredibly high, so there’s never been a better time to start a new comedy night.

CHEW is looking to provide both a platform for established acts and those open spots that are starting to get a name for themselves, the opening night for the new comedy club, based at Ouseburn’s Ernest, features the ‘cheeky and brutal’ Matt Reed headlining with the ‘sublimely ridiculous’ Lee Kyle kick-starting the night off, both of whom are highly regarded pros. The standard is high throughout the inaugural event, which also includes Hal Branson, Sammy Dobson, Neil Harris, Lauren Pattison and Sam Potter, with the whole night being MC’d by Julian Lee. CHEW is to be held on the first Monday of every month, so keep an eye out for further dates and listings.

CHEW is at Ernest, Newcastle on Monday 6th July.
