Reliably informed

After Improbable came to bring their slightly experimental The Still to Northern Stage, it’s now the turn of theatre company Cap-A-Pie to enthrall the audience with innovative and ingenious ways to put on a show. The troupe are set to perform pieces of academic research at a scratch night, which is all currently being undertaken at Newcastle University.

But wait. How do you take an academic paper on, say, mechanical engineering or the intricacies of language and turn it into a full blown production? The company, alongside dancer Martin Hylton and theatre maker Stephen Redman, think that they’ve found a way. It should prove to be an extremely interesting night of slightly improvisational theatre, as well as an insight into the goings on behind the scenes at the university. Expect a range of topics to be covered in unusual and captivating ways; you might even be inspired to become the first performing academic.

Cap-A-Pie’s Performing Research takes place at Northern Stage, Newcastle on Thursday 19th February.
