North East film production company Candle & Bell are currently in the process of crowdfunding their latest project A 6 & 2 3’s, a new short film set in Teesside. The film will have a real Blood Brothers vibe, focusing on two boys from opposite sides of the tracks who meet while one goes searching for his real dad. Over the course of a day, the pair realise they might have more in common than they think.

This isn’t going to be your standard “It’s Grim Up North” kitchen-sink drama though. Candle & Bell, and everyone else involved the production, are looking to make an ambitious, vibrant and energetic short that uses a local cast and crew to add a bit of regional colour and charm. The team already consists of some amazing talent, including director Andy Berriman, who has produced music videos for Saint Saviour and Young Rebel Set, cinematographer and camera operator Ross Marshall, who has 15 years of experience and casting director Daniel John Williams, who has worked on productions as big as Billy Elliott the Musical. They’re working alongside film producer and Candle & Bell founder Maria Caruana Galizia.

It’s hoped that the money raised to produce A 6 & 2 3’s will help to not only create an ambitious short film but can also contribute towards post-production costs, helping to distribute the film around the world and help it to compete in international film festivals. The team are also hoping that pledgers to the film will gain a lot from their donation, as well as the chance to lend a hand to the region’s film industry.

Creative England have already shown their generosity and have donated £5000 to the project, but the team still need support from you to help reach the £7000 target in the next two weeks. As ever, there’s some lovely goodies on offer for anyone who wants to donate. For as little as £5, you’ll receive a free copy of the film, an invite to the screening and behind the scenes updates (not bad for a fiver!) There’s rewards for backers of all levels, but if you’re feeling particularly flush and want to donate the maximum of £150, then you’ll receive everything on the menu (that’s a lot of freebies) plus the chance to meet the filmmakers on the set. Everyone who donates will also be added into a prize draw to become an extra in the film!

If you want to help the project, find out more about A 6 & 2 3s and how you can pledge on the film’s Crowdfunder page.
