‘Twas three weeks before Christmas and all through the house, not a creature was stirring other than ten filthy, black-as-pitch, metal behemoths who rise from the depths of hell and head to The Cluny for the fourth annual instalment of Byker Grave Festival.
From first glance at the poster, this year sees headline sets from a pile of spiky twigs and a twisted ball of diseased organs but, on closer inspection, the promoters have helpfully decrypted the code and it turns out that it’s Crepitation (Brutal Slam Death Grind – their own words) and Portugal’s high priests of party grind (yes, it’s a thing) Serrabulho making their first UK appearance.
Another eight acts including monstrous riffs from Holy Roar Records’ Slabdragger, black metal from Wode, Decrepid and Haar plus grindy action from Rat Faced Bastard and Ogorath.
It’s probably going to be the last chance for you to get your unholy freak on before you’re being forced to wear Santa hats at work and getting told to cheer up for the next month or so. With a line-up as blackened as the coal in your stocking, make sure you don’t miss this.
