Darlington is a hot bed of DIY events and music at the moment, and from beneath the blazing sheets comes Butterfly Effect Records. The brainchild of Stephen Gill and David Saunders, the idea of setting up a record label came, as all excellent ideas do, from a drunken chat.

As Saunders puts it, “watching Mouses destroy the stage with both performance and sound, I remember turning to Stephen and saying to him that more people need to know what’s going on, to which he said, ‘Wouldn’t it be great if the North East had a label who just put out really cool bands?’ Not wanting that to be lost to the confines of drunken chat, I contacted him the next day and voila.”

The first release on the label was The Black Sheep Frederick Dickens EP earlier this year and there are plans to release records by Velvoir, The Magick Godmothers, Avalanche Party and Veil over the next few months, but next up is a North East compilation album due out on Friday 30th June that will be available both digitally and on glorious white vinyl. Featuring a wealth of regional talent including the aforementioned artists along with Twist Helix, Kobadelta, James Robson & The Lovely Burn and more, it’s available for pre-order now.

The Butterfly Effect Records compilation is released on Friday 30th June.
