Northern Stage welcomes prominent performer, writer and theatre maker Travis Alabanza on Monday 11th November, as their new show, Burgerz, aims to shine a light on transphobia.

Having been lauded as one of the most exciting emerging queer voices by the likes of ID and Artsy, Burgerz draws on Travis’ experience of having a burger launched at them whilst crossing a busy London bridge in broad daylight (and having nobody react).

This show is their poignant response; an exploration of their struggle with transphobia and how it is possible to reclaim the trauma of violence or hate and manipulate it into something beautiful and powerful. By fixating on the burger, how it is made, how it tastes and how it feels as it collides with your face, Travis Alabanza is able to present a performance that is raw and timely.

As the winner of Total Theatre Awards 2019, and having been shortlisted for the Carol Tambor Best of Edinburgh Award, it’s not surprising this production has been described as “absolutely vital” by The Stage.
