Middlesbrough’s most manic night of live music returns, as Idle Promotions find home yet again at TSOne, for another instalment of Whirling Dervish. As with previous line-ups, there’s another wonderfully curated mix of bands with an alternative vibe, for a line-up that offers fuzzy, lo-fi noise from three very unique groups on Thursday 4th February.

Opening the show are Mr Treacle, a dirty guitar sound is at this duo’s core, with something of a classic rock goes modern sound, they’re dark around the edges with a melodic core and an interesting twang that’ll certainly set an interesting tone for the night.

Second up are a band that need little introduction on the North East music scene, Mouses. An assured, punk influenced band of quirkiness. They feature lots of poppy melodies that sound like they’ve been dragged through a hedge backwards and pushed back through forwards while clinging on to an innocent bubblegum pop exuberance. Raw, energetic and playful, there aren’t many bands that have such a unique stamp on who they are.

Bruja travel from South Yorkshire to close the show, they continue the fuzzy, sludgy theme running through the gig, with sweet melodies given a grungy twist. Pop sensibilities are again evident through a dark, brooding edge, it’s a very retro grunge sound with something a little bit heavier trying to sneak through. This is a line-up of bands that are unabashedly playing music that’s sincere to who they are, and we’re all the better for hearing it.

Bruja, Mouses and Mr Treacle is at Whirling Dervish, TSOne, Middlesbrough on Thursday 4th February.
