It would be remiss to mention Brix & The Extricated without linking back to The Fall, with the band featuring a smattering of former members, including guitarist and vocalist Brix Smith-Start. The Fall went through decades retaining a loyal following, so the show at The Cluny on Sunday 22nd November will have something to offer to both fans of The Fall and those happily seeking something a bit different.

With long serving Fall bassist Steve Hanley and his brother Paul Hanley on drums, the familiarity of sound comes from a driving rhythm section, an energy that’s deliberate and gives a dark edge to the songs on show. There’s a punk-like energy to Brix’s vocals too, and with a sound featuring so much of what made The Fall such an enthralling band, this is a must for all lovers of that Fall sound.

A fresh take on definitive songs from The Fall’s back catalogue, along with some new tracks from Brix herself, it all makes for an interesting set list, ready to be belted out to an eagerly anticipating audience. Before all that, there’s attitude laden pop from Teesside’s alternative rockers Mouses and pop-tinged garage rock from the very retro sounding Yellow Creatures.
