The UK punk scene is one which will always throw up some of the freshest, finest bands around, lending itself to an earnest, honest form of song writing; it gives us musicians with passion utterly oozing from them. The DIY work ethic also throws up some truly inspired gigs, and one such show featuring a trio of awesome bands takes place on Saturday 6th February, as Fishtank in Durham plays host to Break-Ups, Nomihodai and Novotny.

Surrey’s Break-Ups have a raw energy, though with a gift for a nice melody, and very intelligent song writing, they’re everything that’s great about pop punk. Vocals with a croaky edge that have such a genuine tone; it’ll be so easy to get swept along with the bouncy atmosphere they’ll surely generate. Locals Nomihodai have very similar qualities, fast and fun, they’ll be another band to get totally suckered in to, with shouty, beer-influenced sing-a-longs. Rounding it all out are Novotny, with the Durham two-piece banging out much darker, chaotic noise it’s a show stacked with not-to-be-missed bands.
