Reliably informed

Off the back of a series of successful gigs since the venue became independent last year (including last year’s anniversary celebrations featuring Richard Dawson, Field Music and many more and recent collaborations with the Boiler Shop to present Ty Segall and Oh Sees), The Cluny have just announced perhaps the biggest and most exciting event in the venue’s history – the first Brave Exhibitions Festival.

Bringing together the best of local talent with some of the most important names in the UK underground today, Brave Exhibitions is a playground for the curious or informed listener, packing both the main room and Cluny 2 full of must-see acts across 15th, 16th and 17th November.

Alongside the three announced headliners – noise rock goliaths Part Chimp, seminal psychedelic band Terminal Cheesecake and the essential hi-NRG rituals of Free Love (fka Happy Meals) – is an absolute plethora of noisy and surreal delights. A few choice gems include Newcastle returns for ILL‘s disobedient post-punk and Elisabeth Elektra‘s remarkable electronic pop, Black Helium‘s intense riff worship and Brighton rockers Lower Slaughter. Alongside them, you can catch Waskerley Way‘s wonderfully askew blend of hip-hop and dream pop, Parastatic’s unique take on post-rock, Blom‘s ferocious and visceral experimental hardcore and the beautiful, ambient-informed instrumental work of Ten Sticks amongst many more.

With even more artists set to be added to the bill, Brave Exhibitions looks set to be a hugely welcome addition to the Newcastle gig calendar. You know exactly where to be that weekend.
