Lovers of the written (and spoken) word will find much to enjoy at this month’s instalment of Born Lippy, the monthly series of events which shares poetry, comedy, spoken word, rap, storytelling and much more with fellow logophiles.

Taking place at Cobalt Studios in Newcastle on Wednesday 13th June, the line-up is chock full of lyrical experts. Sweary poet Thick Richard (aka writer, performer and poet Matthew Duffy) has gained national plaudits for his cynical and well-crafted wordplay, having supported the likes of Kate Tempest and Jerry Sadowitz, audiences will be shocked, delighted and in awe of his potty-mouthed tirades. Also spitting rhymes will be Brighton-based MC, producer and singer Bobbie Johnson and Front Step Collective, a Newcastle-based spoken word, hip-hop, dub-trip band who raise important subjects like mental health in their beat-laden verse. Providing a comedic tip, local comedian Julian Lee offers up masterful one-liners in a pun-tastic set which ranges from topical to just plain daft. Plus there’s thought-provoking poetry from previous Born Lippy Slam Winner BOGSEY, along with the usual poetry slam, where entrants go head to head to win a slot at the following month’s event.
