It would be a mistake to believe that Tyneside power trio Blown Out’s Stakhanovite release rate was any indication of a lack of quality control: despite releasing four full albums in two years (amongst any number of live and cassette releases), there’s no sign of Blown Out putting out anything less than awesome.
Album number five is Superior Venus, released on the redoubtable Riot Season label on Friday 24th March, and sees the trio sticking with the interplanetary vibe of previous outings, two blistering quarter-hour plus tracks that see “Telepathic Rhythms collide with High Mind-stream Waste Guitar”. As usual with Riot Season, the release is limited (just 500 orange vinyl copies and 75 cassettes on sister label Swap Meat). The week before the release, the trio hit the road for a five-date tour that takes in York, Brixton, Brighton and Bristol before finishing up on home turf at the Tyne Bar on Sunday 19th March for an album launch gig.
Meanwhile, fellow Mike Vest project, doom-drone legends Bong, also play Newcastle on Friday 24th March as a warm-up for their own tour, including a support slot with Dylan Carlson and The Bug at London’s Heaven nightclub in April.
