The Shipley Art Gallery is the bloomin’ marvellous host to Blooming Marvellous from Saturday 7th March until Saturday 5th September this year. Blooming Marvellous is the quaint and creative product of a community project which saw people of both ends of the age, from 2 to 99 to be precise, and talent spectrum come together to create a wonderful and colourful knitted garden.

Blooming Marvellous looks like something Peggy Patch from that retro kids television programme Playdays might look quite at home in; with fuzzy knitted flowers and multiple crocheted cabbages dotted with the odd softly spiked hedgehog. It even boasts a life size green man covered in leaves of every shape and size nonchalantly reading what you can only assume is Gardeners’ Weekly.

The group of over 2,500 knitters and crocheters in Dorset completed the project in 2011 and has been touring the UK ever since. Meandering through the knitted garden is the perfect way to spend a lazy rainy afternoon, especially for young families and knitting and crocheting enthusiasts, as there are so many different flora, fauna, picnic food and even garden gnomes to spot. So don’t miss the opportunity to see this truly whimsical knitted extravaganza.

Blooming Marvellous comes to the Shipley Art Gallery, from Saturday 7th March until Saturday 5th September.
