Benjamin John Power is three albums and a soundtrack into a solo career as Blanck Mass which is now starting to take equal prominence with his work as part of remarkable electronic duo Fuck Buttons.

Earlier this year he released his second album on seminal psych/noise/experimental label Sacred Bones Records, World Eater. Arguably his strongest statement yet as a solo artist, World Eater was an album that saw him bring an intelligence and subtlety to bear on what is often some fairly uncompromising music, almost industrial-brutal in its relentlessness yet still full of light and shade and surprising melodic gestures.

Power has been articulate about the relationship between the album and the world outside the studio window. “The title is a reference to the inner beast inside human beings that when grouped en-masse stops us from moving forward towards good”, as he explained. If you’ve had the good fortune of seeing Blanck Mass live before, you’ll have some idea how good this album – and previous gems like the simply huge Chernobyl – are going to sound on the new PA at The Cluny when Power hits Newcastle partway through his current tour on Wednesday 3rd May. Support comes from Canadian electronic innovator Egyptrixx.
