One hundred years after the end of the First World War, critically acclaimed stage show Birdsong, based on the novel by Sebastian Faulks, is bringing all of the emotion and anguish of the conflict to Northern Stage. The story follows young Englishman Stephen Wraysford in pre-war France, as he embarks on a passionate and potentially dangerous affair with the beautiful Isabelle. The relationship is one that will turn both of their worlds upside down.

As the war breaks out, Stephen desperately clings to his memories of Isabelle as he leads his men through the trenches of the Somme and its sprawling tunnels. Seen by over 130, 000 people, the stage production of Birdsong has been praised for its deeply emotional storyline, and mesmerising scenes. A gripping, harrowing and intense portrayal of one man’s journey through the horrors of the Great War, this is an adaptation not to be missed.

Birdsong comes to Northern Stage, Newcastle from Monday 23rd February until Saturday 28th February.
