Ben Ottewell will be bringing his distinctive style of songwriting to Middlesbrough Town Hall on Sunday 1st December. The singer and guitarist for Mercury Prize-winning indie band Gomez returns to Teesside to perform original solo material alongside all the hits from Gomez’s banger-filled back catalogue.

As a solo performer, Ben draws comparisons with Tom Waits and Eddie Vedder because of his deep and soulful voice, as well as Nick Drake due to his low-key, melancholic and acoustic-driven driven sound. He has three solo albums to his name so far (Shapes & Shadows, Rattlebag and A Man Apart) and continues to wow audiences with his captivating live performances.

Ben is no stranger to performing in the north-east, both as a solo artist and with Gomez, and is excited to perform again in the region. “I have so many memories of playing up here in the North East. A highlight was a brilliant show at the Westgarth Social Club a few years back to a proper music crowd. It was such a fantastic atmosphere! I’ve also played countless gigs in Newcastle and Stockton, both with the band and solo. Mouth of the Tyne festival was tremendous. I can’t wait to come to Middlesbrough again. I haven’t played the Town Hall before, but I’ve heard great things. I’m really looking forward to playing there this weekend.”

Tickets can be purchased for £15 (plus booking fee) from Middlesbrough Town Hall’s website.
