Inspired by Ben Myers’ novel The Gallows Pole comes an official soundtrack by The Shining Levels which is out now. The music collective of rural folk musicians have produces a beautiful soundscape that is as contemporary as it is authentic and serves as a companion piece to the author’s work.

Written and recorded on the edge of the English Northern Moors in Durham and Northumberland, a variety of techniques were utilised to capture some emotively inspiring atmospheres. The book touches on themes of a divided country and the mysterious nature of rural landscapes and the album here does the same, with seasons changing as fortunes do, for an incredible collection of songs strung together in a fascinating way.

It’s all created and performed by Dan W Coggins and Davey J, with contributions from Jenny Mahler, George Hutton, Charlotte Sellers, Mike Coleman, Joe Smith, Sarah Scott, Benjamin Myers, Dave Sugarbeet and Owain Bennett.
