A typically eclectic show at Cobalt Studios is coming up on Friday 5th October and, as usual, they’ve managed to combine quality with the most urgent and, frankly, batshit crazy line-up possible. Expect a night of extraordinary rhythm, voice, costume and theatre: think human sound techno meets punk.

Topping the tree are BCUC, which stands for Bantu Continua Uhuru Consciousness. Hailing from South Africa, their high-energy performances have fast made them one of their country’s most successful musical exports. Updating and adding to their ancestral, indigenous traditions with jazz, hip-hop and punk rock, Gilles Peterson said they were his favourite live band of last year. Go and see what they fuss is about.

Venue favourites Ponyland are also on the bill to get the party warmed up. Mashing up samba, reggae, drum ‘n’ bass, and Afrobeat, they’re going to get you dancing before the main event.

First up is the always marvellous Junkoactive Wasteman and His Tinphonia. Not seen this absolute revelation before? You’re missing out. Get down early and listen to him roast the beats while wrapped in tin foil.
