Sunderland’s bid to be City Of Culture in 2021 is a very strong one, with the city due to benefit massively from renewed passion behind what Sunderland has to offer and the cultural significance of the area. While there is a great deal of substance behind the bid, and so much on offer in the city, it could be said it was lacking just one thing, an anthem; so step up Barry Hyde, who has delivered in style, with Seagulls And The Saints announced as the soundtrack to the bid.

First finding fame as a member of The Futureheads, and going on to further success as an artist in his own right, Barry Hyde was the perfect selection for the song; an immensely proud Sunderland native who has drawn inspiration from the city while giving so much back to it. The song too showcases much of what Hyde has been doing so well of late; tender yet grandiose songwriting, the song builds to true anthemic qualities and serves to remind us all just how wonderful the city of Sunderland is and what a deserving City Of Culture it would be.
