Mere months after his last Newcastle show at Think Tank?, the witty and brilliant Barns Courtney is venturing to Head of Steam on Tuesday 3rd May to show off the edgy blues rock that has found him supporting the likes of The Libertines and Ed Sheeran. Having spent years playing the frontman in various bands, the Ipswich-via-Seattle singer-songwriter’s charisma and charm radiates through his solo project, with his melodic, percussive acoustic playing blending perfectly with his golden baritone.

Glitter And Gold has become a regular staple of the Radio 1 playlist, and single Burn was used prominently (and appropriately) in Hollywood film Burnt. Barns is a gifted live performer, with crazy amounts of stage presence and a natural ability to be ridiculously entertaining. His guitar playing defies the traditional clichés of singer-songwriters; he frequently alternates between laying out melodies and using his guitar as a percussive instrument, and is an expert in holding an audience’s attention, putting on a hell of a good show. The chilled low-key vibes of the Head of Steam will go hand-in-hand with the brilliance of Barns’ live show, so a sound night of exceptional music is guaranteed.
