It’s the coolest thing to happen to poetry since John Cooper Clarke: We know this to be fact, as the effortless wordsmith Kate Tempest has given her seal of approval. Bang! Said the Gun, the explosive London-based ‘stand-up poetry’ night, is set to hit Durham’s Gala Theatre on Friday 12th May.

But what makes this evening of poetry so special? It’s all just words, right? Wrong. A certified rollercoaster of emotions, the performance poetry spat by the Bang! Team basks in everything from humorous trivialities to Very Serious Politics. And, as if Tempest wasn’t enough, ‘the Nation’s favourite poetry night’ has received a flurry of praise for their passionate commitment to all things wordy – from the validation of former poet laureate Andrew Motion to a solid thumbs up from Phil Jupitus, the event has proved to be a source of great excitement for anyone who is anyone in the world of poetry today.

Headed by fearless gunslinger Dan Cockrill, the team consists of an array of accomplished poets, comedians and plain ol’ writers (if there is such a thing). Whether you know your Byron from your Browning or simply couldn’t give a monkey’s, give Bang! a chance – it might just change your perspective on a few things.
