On Friday 23rd November Gateshead’s BALTIC gallery keep their doors open for visitors to enjoy a night-time foray into their expansive galleries. An evening of artistic delights are promised, with the opportunity to see a new audio-visual exhibition from award-winning artist and poet Heather Phillipson and a retrospective collection of conceptual artist Rasheed Araeen’s 60-year career, including his celebrated geometric paintings and wall structures.

The evening also features a live performance of Pilgrim, a physical journey of sound from celebrated electronic musician James Holden. Dancer Lucy Suggate explores the deep connections that flow between music and dance in her performance, with glimpses into English folk history. Elsewhere, BALTIC’s Curator Alessandro Vincentelli and local seabird expert Dan Turner will explore how the building’s nesting kittiwakes have been embedded into Heather Phillipson’s exhibition; and BALTIC’s Archivist will be taking a dive into the history of the gallery using some interesting objects (bread rolls and Brown Ale are included!)

For anyone looking to get a little more hands-on, a book-making workshop will be running throughout the event, providing an opportunity to craft a handmade concertina-fold book. The gallery’s wondrous shop is also open late, where all manner of arty goodness can be taken home to keep.
