Babble Gum is a monthly variety night bringing the best in poetry, music and comedy from the North East and beyond, Babble Gum has been entertaining audiences in Newcastle for 18 months and their next show on Tuesday 20th March sees the event find a new home with a long heritage of performance – The Cumberland Arms!

On this month’s bill, enjoy performances from Leyla Josephine, a poetry slam winner and 2014 UK National Slam Champion, Leyla is a poet based in Glasgow. Last year she won The Golden Gun at Bang Said The Gun in London, Loud Poets’ Grand Slam and was a finalist for The Roundhouse Slam. She recently performed at Prague Fringe and has been lucky enough to have performed all over Scotland, England, Wales and as far as New York Victoria and Vancouver. Julia Webb, who’s based in Norwich, is the editor for Lighthouse Literary Journal. In 2011 she won the Poetry Society’s Stanza Competition and in 2014 she was shortlisted for the Poetry School/Pighog pamphlet prize.

Also performing will be Colin Bramwell, award-nominated poet, theatre maker and improviser, Colin hails from the Black Isle. He leads Teuchter Company, an international collective of performance artists; their first show, Tiger, was twice award-nominated at Prague Fringe (2016-2017). Plus there’ll be comedy from Middlesbrough based comedian Jim McMaster (“Jim touches on the obvious without the audience realising the punchline. Confident, cleverly worked jokes that the audience understands with great ease, resulting in long spells of laughter. ” – Shoecake comedy) and music from Newcastle-based singer-songwriter Molly Mackay.

As always, there’ll be a chance to try your own hand on the open mic too, and at only £3 on the door, this night is set to bring great quality entertainment at incredible value.
