Fired-up, doused in blood and staring through people like a demonic psychopath. No, that’s not a reference to the final scene of the film Carrie, but a reasonably accurate description of Avalanche Party’s fearsome frontman Jordan Bell at this years’ Twisterella festival.
Avalanche Party don’t mess about. They conjure the type of intensely entertaining atmosphere that’s been missing from the North East music scene for a good while now and Twisterella was just one of the many occasions that North Yorkshire five-piece have caused carnage this year. They’ve been preying on unsuspecting venues with their feral brand of garage rock ‘n’ roll up and down the country, making stops at this year’s Reading and Leeds on the BBC Introducing stage and Europe in-between. There’s no doubt that Avalanche Party have got something special going and it’s spreading like a wild infection. Fresh from being invited down to Media City for a session with BBC6 Music’s Vic Galloway where they gave a taste of their latest, anthemic single Solid Gold, the band are looking to jump straight back into the destructive chaos of their live shows.
If you’re yet to witness Avalanche Party, then shame on you! I’ll let you off for now though, because local independent promoters Beyond The Wall will be showing them off at The Cluny 2 with alt. rock favourites Ilser and fuzzy doom trio Cheap Lunch on Friday 11th November. There’s no way you’re missing this fucker. Not a chance.
