If you’ve never heard of comedian Alex Horne, then you’re seriously missing out. He’s presented three series of his hilarious comedy music show The Horne Section on Radio 4, published two books based on his exploits at the Edinburgh Fringe (Birdwatchingwatching and Wordwatching), and earned an Edinburgh Comedy Award nomination for his most recent show Monsieur Butterfly. Basically, he’s something of a big cheese, which is why it’s amazing the organisers of this year’s Barnard Castle Comedy Festival have managed to pin him down to appear at The Witham. And as the festival’s closer, no less.

Festival Director Peter Dixon said: We couldn’t find a better show than Alex Horne’s latest to close our first ever comedy festival. Not only is he one of the funniest men I’ve ever seen but this show is pure fun. It created a massive buzz at last year’s Edinburgh Festival and we were thrilled to bring Alex to Barnard Castle as part of a small UK tour, limited only by the fact that during the year he has been so busy recording lots of new TV shows.”

Horne has promised to present an extended version of Monsieur Butterfly at the festival, which will see him try to recreate the classic kids board game Mousetrap live on stage (with predictably hilarious results). Expect gags aplenty in what will undoubtedly be a riotously funny end to a day of top comedy.

The Barnard Castle Comedy Festival takes place at The Witham on Saturday 18th July. Tickets are on sale now.
