Reliably informed

Perennially busy Ally Morton (he of electro punks Massa Confusa) has set up a new DIY promotions outfit with Chris Watson (he of BCxDC and garage psych punks Snakes Don’t Belong In Alaska). As you’d expect from two musicians with such backgrounds, Against The Grain intends to promote the weird and wonderful end of the musical spectrum. Their first gig, taking place at Head of Steam in Newcastle on Tuesday 12th April, will feature a hearty blend of doom, noise and hardcore musings.

Improvised noise rockers Waheela take on headline duties; revered for their eardrum-mashing feedback, monster riffs and eccentric reverberations, they’ll no doubt make the walls sweat and the floor shake, as per usual. Also joining the bill are Newcastle punks Knots, who fuse pulsing bass and distorted vocals to pleasingly loud degrees; post-hardcore supergroup Integers (comprising members of B>E>A>K, Mansions of Glory, Written From Negative and Razmataz Lorry Excitement) who promise new recorded material soon; and minimalist lo-fi rockers Bad Amputee, who count folk hero Phil Tyler amongst their numbers.

A carefully thought out line-up from a couple of musicians who clearly have a passion for running well organised and heavy hitting shows. More like this please!
