Cancer is scary, isn’t it? It is. It’s terrifying. That’s why there’s so much euphemism around it – people don’t die, they lose their battle. They don’t go into remission, they are survivors. Bryony Kimmings is sick of it. She’s determined to wade through the vocabulary of battles and survivors, snip through the glossy pink ribbon and stick two fingers up at the endless fun runs she encounters in her mission to truly understand cancer.

Following its success on its 2016 debut, A Pacifists Guide to the War on Cancer has been reworked for a 2018 tour and arrives at Northern Stage in Newcastle from Wednesday 7th until Saturday 10th February.

Award-winning performance artist Bryony sets about trying to pick apart the lexicon of cancer in this all-singing, all-dancing collaboration with Complicité. The show kicks down the doors to the Kingdom of the Sick, peppered with new found friendships, scars, hairlessness, mundane treatments and death. While you’d be forgiven for thinking a musical about cancer was at best, crass and at worst, vulgar, A Pacifist’s Guide to the War on Cancer promises to be as entertaining and fun as thought-provoking and poignant.
