Few musicians have had the impact Bob Dylan has had over his distinguished career; with the pioneering songwriter an influence on so many. One artist in particular who has the brush strokes of Dylan throughout his work is singer-songwriter Matty Oliver, who pays homage to one of his heroes in a special show at The People’s Bookshop on Sunday 18th December.

Songs like Oliver’s This Working Man tells of a guy suffering from depression in heartrending detail and Talkin’ Old Mans Blues is a carefully considered reflection on modern day social isolation. With an authentic voice (and accent) shining through, Oliver doesn’t shy away from letting his influences be worn firmly on his sleeve, while still retaining an original voice, it all makes for a joyous night of his own work and a few wonderful covers.

A Nod To Bob with Matty Oliver is at The People’s Bookshop, Durham on Sunday 18th December.
