The words “feminism” and “fun” aren’t often put in the same sentence together. But why not? The world of feminism is ripe for satire and poking a bit of fun at patriarchy, so it’s quite surprising that comedy doesn’t get on with the topic like a house on fire. The Women’s Education Society of Northumbria Students Union are hoping to change their perception with their Night of Women’s Wit at The Stand on Tuesday 3rd February.

Katherine Tanney, Skye Hawkins and host Nicola Mantalios Lovett are all taking to the stage but don’t worry, there’s some ample male representation too. Seymour Mace, perhaps best known for his appearances in Idiots Rule, will also be appearing in the line up. The money raised by the event will go to support women internationally and, specifically, to help them get the education they deserve. Fun, educational and for a worthwhile cause? Feminism should team up with comedy more often.
