Reliably informed

A Little Chaos and a lot of Kate Winslet. The actress plays 17th Century landscape designer Sabine, who is given the honour of designing one of the main gardens for the new palace at Versailles.  With no formal training, and as a lowly woman, Sabine arrives to shake up the manicured lawns of Versailles, managing to get herself entangled in a love affair with leading landscape architect André Le Notre.

Almost two decades after his first film, The Winter Guest, Alan Rickman takes his seat in the director’s chair once again to weave this sublime love story. No stranger to a ghoulishly pale complexion (think Potter’s Professor Snape), Rickman also steps in front of the camera as the powdery white King Louis XIV.

Combining the opulence of the French court, a tentative courtship common of period dramas, followed by an amorous affair, A Little Chaos seems set to provide a light romp through the gardens of Versailles.

A Little Chaos screens at the Tyneside Cinema, Newcastle from Friday 17th April.
