On the third Sunday of every month Alphabetti will challenge a local theatre group to create a show in just 24 hours. Debuting this month, the 24 Hour Theatre Challenge falls on Sunday 15th March, and there is no official running time or ticket price; Alphabetti allow the audience to pay what they think is an appropriate amount for the show they see.

Provided only with a few items of inspiration, a place to sleep and plenty of energy drinks, it’s entirely up to the theatre company what they perform. They choose everything from the genre, running time, music, costume etc and this month sees Backscratch Theatre take on this exciting challenge. They are a newly formed theatre company based in County Durham who draw their inspirations from the North East, mixing theatre with music, media and anything else they feel suits their work.

This exciting new concept allows companies the freedom to simply create, something they normally cannot do within the constraints and commitments of pitching and paperwork.

The 24 Hour Theatre Challenge takes place at Alphabetti Theatre, Newcastle on Sunday 15th March.
