1001 Nights is a one woman show from French-born Egyptian storyteller Chirine El-Ansary, who brings her intriguing production to Newcastle’s Northern Stage on Thursday 22nd September.
El-Ansary successfully revives the great classic Arabian Nights, thanks to her superb literary and acting skills coupled with her Egyptian sense of humour. Of course we meet Scheherazade, the storyteller who saved her own life together with the lives of her children by telling stories for 1001 nights; the one woman who can put a stop to the betrayed King’s evil plan to bed and slaughter one virgin every night.
Expect to also meet Shahryar, Ali Shar, Ali Baba, and Zumurrud and enter worlds of magic, imagination and passion, travel to all four corners of the earth and allow yourself to be drawn into some of the most intriguing and deliciously seductive episodes from The Arabian Nights, stories that explore the deepest passions and desires of men and women.
El-Ansary’s shows are ‘cycles of stories’ and embrace the glorious process of building layers over layers of storytelling, with the audience encouraged to sit back and surrender themselves to the enchanting powers of the storyteller.
