As has become customary for our birthday celebrations, we’re extremely excited to bring you another compilation album featuring the cream of the North East crop.

The album is FREE to download from our Bandcamp page; today, we focus on The Shooting Of’s Bad Times Are On Horseback

The Shooting Of – Bad Times Are On Horseback

Paul Jeans, aka The Shooting Of, is destined for big things this year. Bad Times Are On Horseback is the opening track from his recently acclaimed Analogue Heart album and is a bristling ode to austerity and propaganda.

From the opening doo-woo’s and piano riff it’s a strangely raucous track, all reverb laden and layered vocals creating a sort of post-dystopian blues club vibe, with the wilfully discordant saxophone solo a fitting end. It would be lazy just to call it lo-fi because there is a depth and texture to this track that multi-instrumentalist Paul has honed meticulously.

In fact, in his own words the song is “quite different in feel to a lot of my songs but still sits comfortably within my work. It comes across as a warning for the apocalypse but it’s really more to do with the daily drip-feeding of paranoia into our lives”. Well put, sir.
