Welcome to the ninth annual NARC. Compilation Album, curated to celebrate our birthday but also to shine a light on some of the amazing local acts we’ve come across. Head over to our Bandcamp site to download your free copy of the album featuring 17 tracks which veer from quirky alt. folk, riotous blues, aggressive rock, disco pop and plenty more besides. You’re welcome.

Despite the fact that there’s more than a touch of the psychedelic in Newcastle five-piece Kobadelta’s Repetition, it would be reductive to label them in such a narrow genre. Repetition is at times bone-crushingly raw thanks to its lightning-fast riffs and full-throttle rhythms, with an out-of-nowhere tempo change two thirds of the way through that keeps you firmly on your toes. Frontman Dom Noble spouts out his almost mystical, dirty lyrics with fervour, channelling Nick Cave with an unusual, off-kilter flow and confidence. There’s a highly muscular, brooding sound to this blistering track, a darkness that underpins all their work. For those who love their rock music unshackled by the constraints of genre, Kobadelta are a dream come true, and Repetition is only the tip of their sonically impressive iceberg.
