Reliably informed

Lindisfarne Festival, the music and creative arts festival based on the gorgeous Northumberland coast, is almost upon us (Friday 4th to Sunday 6th September). Organiser Conleth Maenpaa takes us on a journey of some special songs that will make you want to dance, cry and hug your partner. The festival features a big range of musical genres that matches the diversity of this new festival, which welcomes Public Service Broadcasting, Nadine Shah, Craig Charles and many more.

The Cult – Sweet Soul Sister

One of the best bands of all time. It’s almost too hard to choose one of their songs. Astbury and co. blend brilliant blues, punk and rock to create unbelievable music.

Augustines – Philadelphia the City of Brotherly Love

The Augustines should be headlining Glastonbury! They’re phenomenal live and we will do everything we can to get them to play at the 2016 festival. I’ll remortage if I have to!

Rodriguez – Sugar Man

A lost and forgotten album that made it out to the general public in the last five years or so, there is an amazing documentary about his musical rebirth. This song is really catchy and infectious. Love it.

Sublime – Smoke 2 Joints

Sublime were an inspiration for so many people, they have to be included as they were, in so many ways, ahead of their time. You can see how influential they are, not only to musicians but the whole counter culture that they were part of.

Reverend & The Makers – Heavyweight Champion of the World

Just a great anthem, always gets the crowd pumping. They will bring this and more to the festival on the Saturday. We simply can’t wait for it!

Nina Simone – Black Is The Colour of My True Love’s Hair

If you don’t know this song, listen to it. Surely this is a song for everyone, no matter their musical tastes and preferences, impossible not to love.

Nadine Shah – Stealing Cars

Nadine is a local hero, she will be a superstar! Great song, great album! We are honoured she is playing on the Saturday night with us. She gets compared to Nick Cave and PJ Harvey and that’s some company she is in.

Astral Projection – Nilaya

Not my usual genre of music;, Astral Projection are an electronic musical group producing psychedelic trance, but the 1999 album Another World is just fantastic. Download it and play it loud.

Libertines – Can’t Stand Me Now

Just a great tune to play, absolutely love it.

White Buffalo – The Whistler

This is one of the songs on Sons of Anarchy and I thought wow, what a voice, what lyrics, what a song! Looking deeper into their music it’s just great stuff. A new album is coming out soon and I can’t wait.

Jane’s Addiction – Three Days

Saw Jane’s a couple of years ago in Camden and to say Three Days was great does not do it justice. Dave Navarro produced the best guitar solo I have ever heard. Just superb.

The Lake Poets – Husks

Martin and co. are so talented, I absolutely love this song. This will be so special when he plays at the festival. Sensitive music, mystical atmosphere, overlooking Holy Island… Just magical!

Mogwai – Stanley Kubrick

20 years of success and still rolling strong. They recently completed a series of amazing concerts including one in Newcastle during the BBC 6 Music Festival. An inspirational band and I can’t wait for the next 20 years of their music. This song is a great way to end any show.
