JULIAN LEE’S COMEDY PROFILES: Lauren Pattison | NARC. | Reliably Informed | Music and Creative Arts News for Newcastle and the North East

Reliably informed

She’s just supported Katherine Ryan for two nights in Middlesbrough, she was the runner up in last year’s Funny Women competition, having made the semi-final in 2013, was on the BBC New Comedy Shortlist as well that year and is still only 21. Aye, twenty-flippin’-one. To add to that, she’s reached the semi-final of the Chortle Student Comedy Award this year (and it’s still ongoing…) Lauren Pattison has already got the comedy CV that I would kill for (there, I’ve said it). But don’t let her petite frame fool you, she was tough enough and good enough to win the Stockton ARC Gong Show, which can be notoriously brutal. So as well as talent, the young lady has a steely determination to drive her forward. And she’s proper local as well, having gone to Kenton School.

Quoting Ross Noble, Sarah Millican and the aforementioned Katherine Ryan as heroes and inspirations, she is starting to move in circles where these will soon be considered her peers. She did admit to being a tad starstruck recently when meeting Bo Burnham after a gig, so there’s a charmingly humble streak to Lauren that is very endearing, especially given her many successes for one so young.

The feeling I get from Lauren is that she genuinely loves comedy, not just as a performer but as a true fan who reminisces about watching Only Fools And Horses with her Dad. She couldn’t speak highly enough of The Stand either, and is honest enough to acknowledge the importance of such a good comedy club on her doorstep. It’s hard not to root for Lauren as she makes her way up the comedy ladder and I would genuinely be surprised if we don’t see this local lass on our TVs by the end of the year. Make sure you find time to go see her live real soon.
