Improv group Spontaneous Wrecks are set to debut their full length show at the Bridge Hotel on Wednesday 1st August, with everything themed around the summertime, before heading up to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival on Saturday 18th August. We found out a little bit more about them…

Tell us about the show?
We’ve got two! Our family-friendly show Picture This!, where kids in the audience draw us pictures to inspire scenes and stories we then make up on the spot. There’s also Spontaneous Wrecks Improvised Comedy, a fast-paced hour of improv in the style of Whose Line Is It Anyway!

How has the process been of pulling the show together so far?
Luckily, being improv, we don’t have to think about learning lines or blocking moves! So we think we’ve probably got away with it quite easily on the organisation front! It’s all dependent on the audience we get on the day and what they want to see us do… we’re in their hands.

Have you done any other performances of the show so far? How’ve they been?
This will be our third Edinburgh Fringe Festival with Spontaneous Wrecks Improvised Comedy, and we debuted Picture This! at last year’s Fringe. They’re both so much fun to do, but in very different ways. We love the imagination of the kids in the audiences, and with the grown-up show we’ve become better and better at ‘riding the wave’ of audience momentum to keep the laughter coming.

What are you looking forward to most about taking this show to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival?
Getting to perform for a completely different audience every day we’re there. Each and every show is like our first – rarely has anyone there seen us before and we want to show them they made a great choice!

Anything you’re not looking forward to?
Flyering. It’s the definition of a necessary evil. Gotta be done, but we’re yet to meet many people who enjoy it!

What’s next for you?
We have a full length show at the Bridge Hotel on Wednesday 1st August, with everything themed around the summertime! Doors open at 7.30pm for that one, and tickets are two-for-one online right now. Then it’s off to Edinburgh for a run of daily shows beginning Saturday 18th.
