Who are you?
I’m a singer-songwriter and one third of the North East electro rock band Sapien Trace. This is my solo project which came about due to lockdown and the encouragement of my band mates and fellow local musicians who liked the songs I wrote. (I was initially reluctant to share my work  because once it’s out there everyone can love, hate or troll you and your creative baby!)

What is it you do?
It depends what day you catch me, If I’m not teaching or songwriting  I set up small musical events and collaborate with other artists and sing throughout the region. Lock down has given me the time to focus on my solo work and allowed me to collaborate with other local artists too.

How long have you been doing it?
I have been singing all my life. Originally in rock and funk bands in the Middlesbrough area then solo club and pub cover work through an agent  which enabled me to build my stagecraft. I have also been writing lyrics for other artists  and working steadily on solo material  for a few years. I moved to Newcastle for work and focussed on that for a few years but returned to music and I’ve been with my band mates in Sapien Trace for about 4 years and then recently ventured  out on my solo project.

What inspires you?
I get inspired by so many different things from sounds and samples on the computer to news items and emotional situations. I’ve written politically charged tracks  expressing my views then ballads and upbeat dance tracks depending on the mood and inspiration.

Tell us about your music.
My music is mainly urban, funky electronica  travelling across a few genres such as pop, funk and trip hop. My recent song “Get down and work it out” was unashamed pop written when all I did was clubbing and partying , then In a city (love) is trippy, dark electronica  about  the loss of  a relationship, while upcoming tracks and collaborations are more diverse, influenced by artists like Massive Attack , Example, The Chain Smokers and Nu Yorican Soul.

What have you got coming up in the future?
I have a few new tracks on the way as a solo artist but also new exciting music coming from me and my band mates in Sapien Trace. I have an exciting collaboration with Conrad and Victoria from AXLS  called The Last of the Fallen Angels, where I co wrote and performed some of the tracks and  I am collaborating  with a dance music producer on a track. I have been lucky enough to work with an Ivor Novello and Brit Award winning producer on some future tracks which I can’t wait to share too so I am really excited about all of it.

Where can people find out more about you?
My social media is a great place to watch my videos and  find out about  me and my music.
