Who are you?
My name is David Neil Crabtree, I’m a 26-year-old singer/songwriter/guitarist from Whitby, North Yorkshire.

What is it you do?
I’m a musician/producer. I’m releasing several singles this year. The first one is called ‘Gasoline’. I also work with acts such as The Mentulls and Hayley Mckay. I’ve just finished working on Hayley’s new single ‘Thinking About Last Night’.

How long have you been doing it?
I’ve been performing on stage since I was 11. For the last couple of years, I’ve been playing around 100 gigs a year by myself or with other bands.

What inspires you?
Playing live really. I love the writing and recording process but getting that instant reaction from a live audience is the best thing about being a musician. When you play a great show it gives you the fire to go again. Musical influences include people like Peter Gabriel or Talking Heads. I love artists who aren’t afraid to move in different directions with their music.

Tell us about your music.
I’ve spent the last year working on new music with my producer Danny Schogger (George Michael, Paul Young and Sam Brown) and writer Charlie Dore who has written for George Harrison, Paul Carrack etc. They have helped me to raise my writing and performance to another level. I’d describe my music broadly as pop/rock but it has strong soul/r’n’b influences. I have a raspy, soulful voice and I grew up loving guitarist like Clapton, John Mayer and Larry Carlton so I try to use my guitar on the songs as much as I can too.

What have you got coming up in the future?
I have a new single called ‘Gasoline’ coming out 8th May. It’s a really powerful, dark, song. It has a James Bond Theme Vibe I think. The video was filmed in my hometown of Whitby.
