Reliably informed

After almost a year of being apart, doing various things all over the place, the girls from Your Aunt Fanny are reuniting and we’re super excited about taking our brand new show to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.

Your Aunt Fanny sprang from Live Theatre’s Youth Theatre and we have been performing our brand of comedy throughout the North East to sellout audiences since 2013. With sketches written by award winning playwrights Laura Lindow (Rendevous) and Lee Mattinson (Donna Disco), and directed by Rachel Glover, we’ve received great responses and managed to gather quite a following in our hometown.

It’s been really amazing working with such a great group of girls and our rehearsals are like nothing I’ve ever done before, not in every job do you get stage directions such as “stand like Beyonce” and lighting cues along the lines of “welcome to my lady garden”.

Taking a show to the Fringe has always been a goal of ours and we’ve worked hard over the past year with the amazing support of Live Theatre to achieve it. And finally, after plenty of funding applications, promotional shows and a terms and conditions agreement which includes not getting matching tattoos of our favourite quote – ‘you don’t spell wank stain with an e’ – it’s now less than a month away. It will certainly be an experience sharing our sketches with brand new spectators, and while we will be catering for a more national audience, we will be proud to maintain elements of our Geordie background.

For those who’ve seen Your Aunt Fanny before, our Edinburgh show is taking a slightly different style. More outrageous, more dynamic with brand new sketches of both previously unseen characters as well as old favourites in new, but still ridiculous, scenarios. With live music performed between and throughout our sketches and more scenes with the performers all together, the show will be more fast-paced and playful than ever before.

One of the greatest things about performing with Your Aunt Fanny is that we never know what to expect from our writers or one another. We constantly try to surprise and push one another, often right up until our actual performance.

Although we’re currently in our early stages of rehearsals, we are already getting giddy about our Edinburgh show which will preview at Live Theatre in Newcastle on Friday 7th and Saturday 8th August. We then head up to Edinburgh on Wednesday 19th for a ten day run at Just The Tonic’s The Fancy Rooms as well as some street performances on the Royal Mile. If you’re heading to the Fringe be sure to look out for Aunt Fanny, her shopping trolley and band of comedy nieces, we promise lots of laughs and silly badges to boot.

Your Aunt Fanny perform at Live Theatre, Newcastle on Friday 7th and Saturday 8th August.
