Stuck for something to do in the next seven days? We aim to have you covered with an event a day for the next week, all across the region. This time around we have a music-heavy line-up of excellent entertainment. Dive in!

Monday 24th August
MUSIC Acatalepsy @ Northumberland Arms, Newcastle
Acatalepsy offer up pure and complex death metal straight out of Edinburgh, while providing support are Newcastle-based metalers Plague Rider and the thrashy Varzenigan.

Tuesday 25th August
MUSIC Spector @ Sound it Out, Stockton or Reflex, Newcastle
A double-whammy of in-store performances come from epic pop band Spector in support of their eagerly anticipated second album, Moth Boys. Catch the band at Newcastle’s Reflex at 1pm or Stockton’s Sound It Out at 5pm.

Wednesday 26th August
FILM RSC LIVE: Othello @ The Witham, Barnard Castle
The greatest general of his age brings all of Shakespeare’s might to Stratford in the Royal Shakespeare Company’s production of Othello. If you can’t get down to That London for what’s certain to be a magnificent performance from Hugh Quarshie, head to The Witham in Barnard Castle and watch the drama unfold on the big screen.

Thursday 27th August
ART & LIT Mitchel Proctor @ House of Blah Blah, Middlesbrough
Looking at the cultural significance of documentary photography, this two year retrospective looks at Mitchel Proctor’s work; where alienation of travel is pivotal.

Friday 28th August
FILM Straight Outta Compton @ Tyneside Cinema, Newcastle
The biopic everyone’s been talking about, legendary rap group NWA come under the microscope in Straight Outta Compton; showing the band’s meteoric rise and fall and how they revolutionised pop culture, providing a soundtrack to civil disobedience. This screening will be followed by an old-school hip-hop party provided by Screenage Kicks.

Saturday 29th August
FOOD & DRINK The Yards of Ale festival @ Green Dragon Quarter, Stockton
One for fans of booze and music – the Yards of Ale festival takes over the Georgian Theatre, Green Room and The Wasps Nest for a whole weekend of good drink and great bands. Expect the best local brewers and cider makers, tasty food from local traders and a few fun musical acts thrown into the mix

Sunday 30th August
MUSIC Into Teesside Free Festival Alldayer @ TS One, Middlesbrough
We can’t think of a better way to spend a Sunday afternoon than in the presence of some amazing local bands. Head over to TS One in Middlesbrough then, as promoters Into Tomorrow offer up a veritable smorgasboard of talent which includes Avalanche Party, Weird Shapes, Mouses, Violet Deep, Fleckt Pets and many more.
