Stuck for something to do in the next seven days? We aim to have you covered with an event a day for the next week, all across the region. This time around we have top inventive music, an art exhibition from emerging talents, a top film comedy, lots of laughs and a whole lot more…

Monday 5th June
MUSIC Guadalupe Plata @ Cluny, Newcastle
With the promise of a full-throttle live performance and weird and wonderful instruments, from cigar box guitars to electrified wash tub basses, there aren’t many that can outshine the utter originality of this trio, with a sound rooted in blues and rockabilly sounds.

Tuesday 6th June
FILM Mindhorn @ ARC, Stockton
From the brilliant mind Julian Barratt, comes Mindhorn, the tale of washed-up actor Richard Thorncroft who peaked with hit 1980s detective show ‘Mindhorn’, playing the titular Isle of Man sleuth with a rather unique ability.

Wednesday 7th June
COMEDY Reginald D Hunter @ Tyne Theatre & Opera House, Newcastle
Having moved to the UK over 20 years ago, Hunter joins a number of like-minded comics who have crossed the Atlantic in search of a better class of audience.  Good for us, because his brand of comedy is like nothing else on the circuit: raw, close to the bone, cerebral and often ingenious. Read Joe Fowler’s full preview here.

Thursday 8th June
COMEDY Mr Shindig’s Laughter Store @ The Cumberland Arms, Newcastle
It’s an election special this week, so after you’ve been a good egg and been to cast your vote, your Thursday evening can be spent in the company of some top comedy talent. Regular hosts Hal Branson and Joby Mageean introduce Seymour Mace, Simon Donald, Stuart Edwards, Liberty Hodes, Liam Elcoat and Ben Crompton.

Friday 9th June
ART & LIT Newcastle University BA Fine Art Degree Show @ Great North Museum, Newcastle
The Newcastle University Fine Art BA Degree Show brings together the work of over fifty young artists at the culmination of four-years’ study on the BA in Fine Art. The exhibition displays a diverse set of practices and media including painting, new media, film, video, sculpture, photography, print, sound, performance and installation.

Saturday 10th June
MUSIC Dish Pit @ Chilli Cake, Hartlepool
Dish Pit are one of Canada’s best kept secrets. Punk-rock for all. Come join them on their first ever UK tour – their first release racked up over 30,000 downloads on Free Music Archive because they’re brilliant!

Sunday 11th June
FILM Fox & His Friends @ Tyneside Cinema, Newcastle
Working class and middle-upper class worlds come together in Fassbinder’s sharp look at class conflict within the gay world. Fassbinder stars as the title character, an innocent, not-very-smart working-class gay guy who wins the lottery and is adopted into a group of wealthy, hypocritical homosexual men. Horrified by his lack of etiquette but attracted to his fortune, Fox is exploited and abused by all.
