Henrik Ibsen’s masterpiece, is revered as possibly the greatest stage role ever written for an actress. This funny, shocking and powerful play opens up the desperation and absurdity of trying to live as a thing that you are not.

ART & LIT Guy Denning @ Hartlepool Gallery, Hartlepool
Hartlepool Art Gallery may seem like an incongruous place for Guy Denning’s career retrospective, but the world-renowned artist and creator of highly politicised works has a particular affinity with the North East, and his new exhibition is well worth a look.

MUSIC De La Soul @ Northumbria Uni, Newcastl
The hip-hop legends are still going strong, and with sharp words and strong minds, their take on the world around them is one that needs to be heard, all coming over the best beats.
Thursday 24th February
EVENTS Ale & Arty Festival @ ARC Stockton
The three day festival starts on Thursday, with good beer and some smashing entertainment. Music, comedy and a whole lot more make this a smashing weekend ahead, and you can start it a day early, it’s totally allowed.
Friday 25th February
COMEDY The Friday Show @ The Stand, Newcastle
The laughs come thick and fast, with a stellar line-up of Paul Tonkinson, Noel James, Lauren Pattison, Julie Grady Thomas and host Martin Mor ready to tickle your funny bone.
Saturday 26th February
MUSIC The Handsome Family @ Sage Gateshead
The husband and wife duo play some mesmerising country-influenced songs at the perfect venue, telling stories through captivating words and music.
Sunday 27th February
FILM Bagdad Cafe @ Tyneside Cinema, Newcastle
This 1987 German comedy set in a remote truck-stop cafe, centres on two women recently separated from their husband’s and will make for top Sunday viewing.
