Stuck for something to do in the next seven days? We aim to have you covered with an event a day for the next week, all across the region. This time around we have a a talented troubadour, captivating theatre, talented musicians from all over the world, pre-Halloween fun and a whole lot more…

Monday 24th October
MUSIC Jonah Matranga @ Think Tank?, Newcastle
Always a brilliantly engaging musician, Jonah Matranga has been embarking on a jaunt around the UK, and brings his unwavering, earnest, heartfelt musicianship to Newcastle to get the week started in the right way. There’s subtle energy to the one-man acoustic shows, drawing on tracks from a post hardcore and alt rock past; the delicate, twinkling serenades fitting alongside those, in a setlist usually decided on the fly. Sing-a-longs and shout-a-longs are always encouraged.

Tuesday 25th October
STAGE Jess and Joe Forever @ Live Theatre, Newcastle
A new coming of age tale comes to Live Theatre on Tuesday and Wednesday this week, as Jess And Joe Forever tells the story of growing up and fitting in (or not). The two characters are miles apart, but a story of friendship follows in this beautiful piece of theatre filled with boys, girls, secrets, scotch eggs and a little bit of love.

Wednesday 26th October
COMEDY Gary Delaney – There’s Something About Gary @ Seen, Darlington
King of the oneliner Gary Delaney has a new show he’s bringing to Darlington this week, with the master wordsmith a real comedy favourite, this would be one show we highly recommend checking it. Masterful wordplay, delightfully cheeky, and never afraid to go a little dark, Delaney is one of the best on the comedy circuit and this show is sure to be a hoot!

Thursday 27th October
MUSIC Ouseburn World Music Festival @ Cluny 2, Newcastle
Ouseburn World Music Festival draws together the best local, national and international world music acts for an astounding night of the best in diverse sounds, and it sets up an eclectic evening of electrifying music. With roots all over the world, the line-up includes the multi-cultural folk of Varldens Band; the powerful, upbeat percussive lead sounds of Ladies of Midnight Blue; the inventive Red Sparrow Fall; passionate, soulful Crossings Band; the award-winning Kolonien; Senegalese rising star Abdou Cissokho and Charu Hariharan’s mesmerising songs, this is a celebration of some of the best international artists.

Friday 28th October
EVENTS Ampersand Presents Micro-Lates @ Ampersand Inventions, Newcastle
It’s Halloween weekend, so we’ve lined-up a few recommendations to edge towards the big day itself on Monday. This event is a uniquely creepy experience called Calvicula Nox; all inspired by tales of witchcraft, sorcery and superstition, Ampsersand’s finest creative minds have lined-up a bewitching time. Rural England provides the inspiration for a transformation of the studios which will prove spellbinding, freaky foliage, eerie lighting and a whole lot more will set the right tone. Friday sees workshops, demonstrations and installations and lots of spooky fun, with more on Saturday.

Saturday 29th October
EVENTS PANIC ROOM: Heroes vs. Villains @ Baltic, Gateshead
Leave your civilian identity at the door, pop on your cape, mask and at the speed of a bullet make your way to the dancefloor as the DJs battle both the light side and the dark. With drinks offers, Halloween cocktails, plus prizes for the best disguises this is what Halloween is all about, and with such an arty backdrop, you know everyone will be going all out on their costume. So choose your side, goody or baddy, hero or villain and let yourself get swept away in your new identity.

Sunday 30th October
FILM The Cabinet of Dr Caligari @ Newcastle Castle
Haunting film fun is our recommendation to round out the week; brought together by The OPH Collective, alongside the screening we’re set for musical accompaniment to it, that will dish out the best sounds in the Great Hall of the Castle for a chance to bring Halloween in as it should be. It’s a creepy, carnival-themed special event for one of the most iconic films in cinematic history. Hypnotist Dr. Caligari thrusts the story forward as he tried to coerce somnambulist Cesare to enact his evil bidding. With a live soundtrack featuring guitars, feedback, recorders, machinery and more, it’ll all aid in the film providing some real horror throughout the night.
