Stuck for something to do in the next seven days? We aim to have you covered with an event a day for the next week, all across the region. This time around we have classic punk film, political comedy, indie pop and a whole lot more…

Monday 29th August
COMEDY Sod The Tories @ The Stand, Newcastle
Political panel show comedy fun kicks off your week, courtesy of a Free Thinking Radicals special. Host John Scott returns to his Sod The Tories And Have A Nice Week format for a one of special as he hosts, with comedians Cal Halbert, John Whale, Si Beckwith and Joby Mageean ranting, raving and providing a nice bit of silliness for a perfect end to a bank holiday Monday.

Tuesday 30th August
FILM Sid & Nancy @ Tyneside Cinema
It’s 30 years since the release of Alex Cox’s seminal 1986 biopic of punk legend Sid Vicious, starring Gary Oldman in one of his earliest and most acclaimed roles as the Sex Pistols bassist, who embodied the “live fast, die young” ethos to a heartbreakingly dark end. It follows his visceral and volatile relationship with Nancy Spungen, through booze, drugs and violence in a key film capturing the punk scene of the late ’70s.

Wednesday 31st August
EVENTS #BeachBumPinUps @ The Grand Hotel, Tynemouth
The Grand Hotel in Tynemouth is venue HQ for the day, as a full vintage photoshoot experience is on offer, for you to be transformed into your most confident vintage self.  From the professional team to help you prepare for your shoot, right through to having help posing when in front of the camera, it’s a unique and quite wonderful event. Additional businesses have come together to present an original full Vintage experience. Tynemouth Surf Co. will be supplying some vintage 1950’s surfboards, and a professional hairstylist and make-up artist also joining the team. All of this work is under direction of Laura Pearman Photography, with the On-Location Vintage PinUp session photographer the perfect person to be at the reigns. The region’s vintage enthusiasts are invited to come and participate.

Thursday 1st September
MUSIC Trust Fund @ Pop Recs, Sunderland
A midweek matinee from the lovely DIY indie poppers happens on Wednesday, as Trust Fund play instore at 4pm. They’re playing a gig at The Westgarth on the night too, so there’s two excellent chances to catch the rather gorgeous melodic sounds of this talented bunch.

Friday 2nd September
MUSIC Quadrilles, Pellethead @ Chilli Cake, Hartlepool
London math-rockers with Hartlepool roots Quadrilles have been building up quite the following of late, and this show in an immensely intimate venue is sure to be a special one, as they’re joined by Middlesbrough post-punk/no-wave group Pellethead.

Saturday 3rd September
COMEDY Jason Cook, Lauren Pattison @ The Witham, Barnard Castle
Funny Way To Be Comedy Club has again pulled out all the stops to pack the best laughs into The Witham. With local favourites Jason Cook and Lauren Pattison on show this month. Cook was the writer behind the very successful sitcom Hebburn, though it’s his stand-up that really shines, an engaging presence and masterful comic, it’ll be great to see him joined by another star in the making in the brilliantly funny Lauren Pattison.

Sunday 4th September
MUSIC Bridie Jackson And The Arbour @ Cluny 2
The curtain is set to come down on the quite wonderful music of Bridie Jackson And The Arbour, though there’s a chance to say goodbye properly, as they’re set to go out with a bang with a show at Cluny 2 on Sunday night. Ably supported by their good friends Gilmore & Roberts, their delectable folk rock sounds will be a miss to the North East music scene, but at least we all get the chance to say a fond farewell to their sumptuous songwriting.
