Stuck for something to do in the next seven days? We aim to have you covered with an event a day for the next week, all across the region. This time around we have a classic film, top comedy, rising stars of the music scene and a whole lot more…

Monday 1st August
MUSIC Young Legionnaire @ Cluny 2, Newcastle
Raucous guitars, and melodic noise will be a perfect way to kick off the week, as three-piece rockers Young Legionnaire will throw out some wonderful fuzzy music all over Cluny 2. With similarly scuzzy sounds from local favourites Eat Fast, you week is getting started with a bang.

Tuesday 2nd August
ART & LIT Alice In Wonderland @ Laing Art Gallery, Newcastle
Many illustrators, artists, musicians, filmmakers and designers have been influenced and inspired over the past 150 years by the story of the girl who went ‘down the rabbit hole’. This exhibition is the chance to explore that, and includes illustrations and drawings celebrating Alice in Wonderland by Mervyn Peake, Ralph Steadman, Leonard Weisgard, Arthur Rackham, Peter Blake and Salvador Dali.

Wednesday 3rd August
COMEDY Matt Reed, The Mimic Men @ The Bottle Shop, Newcastle
Comedy fans are in for a treat on Wednesday as two local favourites perform extended sets in Newcastle. The Mimic Men provide support with their impressions which made a huge splash on Britain’s Got Talent this year, and they’ve been making real strides as a double-act who know how to make you laugh. Then it’s on to the razor-sharp wit of Matt Reed, whose cheeky and charming style will end the night on a high.

Thursday 4th August
MUSIC Penetration @ Westgarth Social Club, Middlesbrough
For the first time since 1979 Penetration return to Middlesbrough for an exclusive show at The Westgarth Club. On the back of 2015’s highly acclaimed Resolution album the band have been playing a series of shows to highly responsive audiences. Their loyal following will be out in force, as their punky sounds will make for a fun evening.

Friday 5th August
FILM Dirty Dancing @ Tyneside Cinema, Newcastle
The film is a favourite for so many, and has a legacy like few others. An incredible soundtrack is perhaps what the movie is best known for, with so many iconic moments too, Patrick Swayze and Jennifer Grey sway their way from scene to scene filled with memorable dialogue, the chance to see it all unfold on the big screen is a perfect Friday night.

Saturday 6th August
ART & LIT SHOP @ Mushroom Works, Newcastle
Something a bit different for Saturday, as a chance to find unique quality locally made products great for a gift or just a treat for yourself. Textiles, ceramics, art, jewellery, furniture and much more are all available at a reasonable price, and more than anything, it’s perfect for a Saturday mooch.

Sunday 7th August
COMEDY Josie Long @ MIMA, Middlesbrough
The delightful Josie Long could be the best way to round out the week at MIMA, as the comedian brings her thoughtful, exuberant and wonderfully silly comedy to Middlesbrough, for a rare appearance in the North East. The infectiously inspiring and intelligent comedian is highly original and will leave you with a lasting impression like few others could.
